Day 56
Farmington, MO
Distance: zero miles (non-cycling day)
Laundry achievements: washed every item of
clothing in my panniers…
A quiet day resting the slightly sore and
tender leggies in Farmington.
After a healthy breakfast, I chilled out
for a while catching up on the blogs I missed, getting a few other bits of
stuff done and watching a bit of Trash TV.
I could see it was a lovely day again
outside but I was reluctant to do too much. To get into the centre of the old
town I’d have needed to rally Steed into action. On the other hand, wandering
around the new town where I am staying is a basically a case of meandering from
parking lot to parking lot and trying to dodge the fast-moving, tyre screechin’
Ford F250s. I could see today why Kim was so keen to be giving me a ride last
night!!
But once the healthy breakfast had
disappeared, I decided to run the gauntlet and made the trip over to Steak and
Shake for an all-American chicken burger with fries and, most importantly, a
delicious vanilla milkshake.
A quick prowl around Walmart and then back
for the mammoth laundry session…
There are two things I’ve notice about the Missouri
lifestyle.
The first is the availability of alcohol –
they have whisky, bourbon and other bottles in gas stations, convenience stores,
pretty much everywhere. Even the liquor choice at Walmart would have shamed
some of the specialist stores in the UK
Second, you can still smoke wherever you
like. In the street, in bars, in restaurants, everywhere. And as a result my
clothes, hair, skin and even my bags have started to smell of it.
Today, I emptied all clothing out of my
panniers and ran it through the washing machine. I still feel like there’s a
whiff of the baccy about it, but it’s a lot better.
Back on the road tomorrow, and bound for
Illinois.
Not long before I gogo MOMO.
Me x
